Prior to joining Dr. Donald Bacon, Nurse Practitioner* Irene DeChavez worked in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio,Texas. In addition to three years experience as a Family Nurse Practitioner, she has more than 15 years of nursing experience. She has clinical experience in several areas including critical care, oncology, and bone marrow transplant. She earned her nurse practitioner degree with honors from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing and her nursing degree from there as well. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
*A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has completed advanced education (a minimum of a master's degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses.
